The late Richardson Fire Capt. Stephen Hill, who died in the line of duty due to occupational cancer in 2020, will be honored this weekend at the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Md., part of the 40th Annual National Firefighters Memorial Weekend Oct. 2-3. Hill’s name will be among the names of 215 firefighters added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in honor of their sacrifices.

The weekend includes two services—a Saturday evening candlelight service and a Sunday morning memorial service. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will present each Fire Hero Family with an American flag flown over the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and the U.S. Capitol. In addition, communities across the U.S. will light up landmarks in red Saturday night as part of the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters program. At Richardson’s Fire Headquarters, the art piece “Insignia Lattice” will glow red and Fire Station 3 will light its art piece, “Flow,” in red. Houses of worship, town squares, etc. are encouraged to ring bells Sunday morning as part of the Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters program.
