RICHARDSON – The Richardson Public Library is commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with some fun activities for the entire family.

This month’s Darbey’s Storywalk® located just outside the Library features “Be a King,” a book about key moments from the civil rights leader’s life with a modern class of students learning to follow in his footsteps. Darbey’s Storywalk® will also feature a QR code to connect visitors with a list of other books about Dr. King.

Visitors to the Library will notice its main display in the lobby is dedicated to Dr. King with other inspirational African American leaders including former first lady Michelle Obama and Chicago Mayor Harold Washington. The display features a timeline of King’s life and other subjects related to him.

The Library is also hosting a Dream Wall where children can participate by writing their own dreams on a piece of paper to have displayed. The Library is also hosting an MLK, Jr. Bookmark Contest for kids and teens ages 3-18 where they can submit their art to be considered for a new, colorful bookmark to be published in the spring.

Activities at the Richardson Public Library are in addition to Richardson’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest and the Black History Month: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion Art Contest.
