Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s section of the Cotton Belt Rail Line will feature a second track after a unanimous vote by the agency’s board of directors earlier this week. The decision to add a second track will allow two-way traffic and allow trains to run more efficiently while reducing wait times for passengers.
The Cotton Belt is a key piece of Richardson’s future transportation network. The 53-mile Cotton Belt Rail Corridor will link Richardson to DFW International Airport and downtown Fort Worth. DART’s 26-mile section stretches from Plano to DFW Airport and will feature stops in Richardson at both the University of Texas at Dallas campus, at what will be the City’s fifth DART station, and CityLine, where it will interconnect with DART’s existing light rail system. Construction is expected to begin in 2019, with an estimated completion date of December 2022.
