Celebrate 53 years of the Cottonwood Art Festival ay 7-8. It has become a Richardson tradition and one of the most prestigious outdoor fine arts festivals in the country, ranking 10th out of 1,499 shows.
Returning attendees can expect all their favorite things including unique art from more than 200 artists, live music on two stages and food. New additions this year that you do not want to miss are daily live art performances by Amy Burkman and more than 30 brand new artists to the festival.
Artists will exhibit in a variety of mediums including jewelry, digital, 3D mixed media, wood sculptures and more. The work of this year’s featured artist, Marjolyn van der Hart, a mixed media digital artist will be on display.
There are several ways for children to explore art. The ArtStop Children’s area will feature new and fun activities such as learning the basics of weaving, creating with clay making a suncatcher and throwing mud. There is also a new activity called Culture Corner that aims to highlight different cultures. This year, kids will learn about the country of China. Kids are invited to create a tiger mask that can be worn throughout the festival to celebrate 2022, the year of the Tiger.
The food court also returns for people to enjoy some festival favorites as well as some tasty items from new food vendors. Expect everything from BBQ and southern cooking to handcrafted soda and espresso.
Serri Ayers, Superintendent of Community Events, said she hopes that attendees enjoy all the activities during the two-day festival and create new memories. As one of the largest outdoor art festivals, she said many are looking forward to the bi-annual tradition.
Entry into the festival is free, including free parking. It will be open May 7 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and May 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
