Michelle McDowell Smith has been selected as the Featured Artist for the fall 2022 Cottonwood Art Festival, scheduled for Oct. 1-2. Combining collage and acrylic paint, Smith celebrates family, trust, love and “the unique individuality found within ourselves and in others” in her work. Old maps, book pages, sewing patterns, linoleum stamps and vintage materials are utilized to symbolize emotion, depth and treasured meanings.
Smith’s mixed-media artwork has been shown at more than 80 juried art shows and festivals across the country. As Cottonwood’s Featured Artist, her designs will be showcased on festival merchandise and other promotional materials.
Since 1969, the semi-annual Cottonwood Art Festival has taken place in Cottonwood Park. The 2022 fall festival will display the museum-quality work of more than 200 artists in a juried show, and include live musical performances, numerous food and beverage options and children’s art stations.
