The streets of downtown Richardson were filled and bustling last Saturday as longtime residents, newcomers and visitors attended the City’s Main Street Celebration. It was the first time in years for many to visit the historic area, now more pedestrian-friendly thanks to recent infrastructure improvements. The Celebration showed off the improvements, such as wider sidewalks and new landscaping, and also highlighted the variety of restaurants and other businesses in the area, also known as the CORE District.
A ribbon-cutting attended by city, county, state and federal leaders kicked off the Celebration near McKinney and Main streets, which included remarks by Mayor Paul Voelker and music by the Richardson Symphony Orchestra. Numerous vendor booths were set up along Main Street and adjacent streets, and more live music was performed throughout the afternoon at a dedicated stage on the City’s new greenspace.
Future plans for the CORE District include additional beautification and a new 14.5-acre mixed-use development at the northeast corner of Main Street and US 75.
