The Richardson Animal Shelter’s week-long adoption event in August and month-long adoption awareness campaign, part of the annual, nationwide “Clear the Shelters” program, was a big success. There were 128 adoptions of dogs and cats Aug. 1-31, an adoption rate of 94.08 percent, almost a 10 percent increase from adoptions in August 2019. As of Sept. 1, there were just three dogs and seven cats available for adoption.
During the pandemic, adoptions continue to take place at the Shelter by appointment only; those wishing to adopt should check the Shelter’s social media to see which animals are available prior to making an appointment. The Shelter also helps residents who are struggling financially to care for their pet by providing food and other items.
