Richardson received a silver award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) as part of its 2020 Excellence in Economic Development Awards Program. The City was recognized in the Special Event category for the Richardson Innovation Quarter (IQ) Block Party held in June 2019. The Block Party transformed a City-owned vacant industrial site within the IQ with food trucks, live music, games, giveaways and a “pop-up park” demonstration, featuring pedestrian bridges over nearby Duck Creek. Hundreds of residents and workers attended the two-day event and provided comments to help develop the new zoning code for the area.

IEDC is a nonprofit organization serving economic developers, with more than 5,000 members. Its awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers from around the world. This year, IEDC received more than 500 submissions from four countries.
