The City of Richardson received a Bronze Award this week as part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition’s Fleet Recognition Awards. The awards are given annually to recognize cities’ and organizations’ efforts to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency of fleet vehicles. Richardson has won a Fleet Recognition Award five years in a row, since the awards program began.

The 21 public-sector fleets recognized Tuesday were required to provide details about their move toward cleaner operations through the DFW Clean Cities annual report. Strategies can include using alternative fuel vehicles, reducing idling and using technology to improve efficiency of operations. The Coalition reported that the winning cities contributed to a total regional reduction, in 2018, of:

  • 23,243,022 gallons of petroleum
  • 753,602 pounds of ozone forming nitrogen oxides (NOx)
  • 41,493 tons of greenhouse gas emissions
