The City Council received a briefing Monday on the City’s preparation work and response efforts related to February’s winter storm events and plans for public outreach/education efforts related to spring storms.
Street crews prepped roads with more than 2 million pounds of sand (equal to 64 filled dump trucks) and tackled the ice with close to 40,000 pounds of salt and 33,000 pounds of “ice melt.” Emergency crews responded to 120 incidents related to Winter Storm Landon (Feb. 2-5) and 70 incidents with Winter Storm Nancy (Feb. 23-24), including sprinkler breaks, elderly assistance, downed power lines and EMS calls.
A new urban stormwater runoff education effort kicks off this spring to help residents have a better understanding of neighborhood drainage systems and what they can do on their own property to reduce flooding concerns caused by heavy rainfall/urban flash flooding. Watch for articles in City publications and view the new Stormwater Drainage Guide at the City’s website beginning April 1.
