City staff updated the City Council Monday regarding past, present and future uses of the Civic Center, in preparation for further discussions related to a 2021 Bond Program and the possible renovation of the City Hall/Civic Center complex. The Civic Center features 13,750 square feet of space available for City-sponsored events and meetings as well as for public rental (temporarily suspended during the pandemic).

Four future scenarios for the Civic Center were discussed, including:

  • Continue as is using the current configuration
  • Reconfigure the space to allow for better safety/security
  • Assess relocating the Civic Center to a different site, possibly in an economic redevelopment area, to serve as a catalyst/support for other projects
  • Discontinue Civic Center operations

A second briefing on Civic Center options will be given in winter/spring 2021, utilizing City Council feedback given at Monday’s meeting.
