The City Council passed a resolution Monday authorizing the Parks Department to apply for a $250,000 matching grant from Collin County to help fund additions to the Breckinridge Hike and Bike Trail, which is located in Collin County. The additions consist of more than 6,300 feet of paved trail that will connect segments of the trail in two areas:
- From Ruth Back Toler Park on the north side of Renner Road to Breckinridge Park on the south side of Renner Road, allowing for a safe crossing under Renner Road
- From the south parking lot on Moroney Drive to the parking lot on Beck Drive, providing continuous access to the entire Breckinridge Park trail system
The grant is part of Collin County’s Parks and
Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program, which helps cities add to and
renovate parks, trails and other open spaces.
If awarded the grant, the City will provide approximately $655,000 in 2015 G.O.
Bond Funds to cover the local match required as well as the additional funds
needed for design and construction. Since 2001, Richardson has received more
than $1.25 million in grant funding through the Collin County program.
