At Monday’s City Council meeting, the City Council voted to continue the Declaration of a Local State of Disaster signed by Mayor Dubey on May 29. The Disaster Declaration enables the City to:
- Seek federal financial assistance for both individuals and public entities;
- Continue recovery coordination with City partnerships and other government jurisdictions;
- Activate disaster contracts such as debris removal and monitoring;
- Waive building permit fees for storm-related construction and repair;
- Provide express permitting for those permits that have not been waived for storm-related construction; and
- Extended inspection hours for storm-related construction
Federal financial assistance is now available for affected homeowners and renters who reside in Dallas and Collin County who apply for assistance and are approved by FEMA. The Individual Assistance program helps with expenses not covered by insurance. Costs that may qualify include temporary housing, emergency home repairs, and serious needs including water, food, personal hygiene items, or fuel for transportation.
Applications for assistance may be completed online or through FEMA’s mobile app.
