The Richardson Animal Shelter has begun using the services of a professional photographer to better showcase adoptable animals and increase adoptions. The resulting photos incorporate creative techniques which, according to Shelter staff, help to better capture the personality and beauty of the animals than previous photos, which were often taken by staff and volunteers during the intake process. In addition, the professional photo sessions involve a more relaxed atmosphere for certain animals, away from the noise of the Shelter and complete with treats and space for having fun.
The sessions are scheduled twice a month, and the photos are posted on the Shelter’s website, on sites such as Petfinder and on social media. Shelter staff said the photos have already resulted in adoptions and have generated calls from potential adopters, even some from out of state.
