The City Council has approved $220,000 in grants for almost two dozen area cultural and arts-related organizations. The recipients were vetted by the City’s Cultural Arts Commission, which acts as an advisory board and recommends funds to support and promote cultural/arts organizations. The Commission reviews grant applications from arts organizations each year for financial assistance, in alignment with the City’s Cultural Arts Master Plan.
Organizations benefiting span a wide variety of interests and cultures found in Richardson, from literary arts and Indian dance to chamber music and women’s barbershop harmony. The grants, funded by the hotel/motel tax fund, will assist the organizations with operating expenses and regular programming.
The total organizations funded and total funds awarded this year are an increase over 2020 of about 75 percent and 22 percent respectively, increases made possible by the City’s new 2021-22 budget.
