Wednesday this week, Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker
declared a Local State of Disaster Due to a Public Health Emergency to help
contain and mitigate the spread of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It works
in conjunction with a similar order declared Thursday by Texas Gov. Greg Abbot.
The statewide executive order includes:
- Prohibition on social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.
- Temporary closure of eating or drinking establishments such as bars, restaurants and food courts allowing for use of drive-thru, pickup or delivery options.
- Restricts access at nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.
- Temporary closure of schools.
In addition to these measures, Richardson’s declaration includes:
- Prohibition of community gatherings of 50 persons or more.
- Organizations that serve high-risk populations are urged to cancel gatherings of 10 people or more.
The above measures are in effect through April 3
but can be extended beyond that date if deemed necessary.
The Dallas County Health Department reported 19 additional positive 2019 novel
coronavirus (COVID-19) cases Friday morning, bringing the Dallas County total
to 74. As of Thursday, two of the total positives have been identified as
residents of Richardson, with one case resulting in death.
Collin County public health officials have reported a total of 18 confirmed
positive cases and one confirmed death associated with COVID-19.
