Hitting the road this weekend for the holiday? Here are some tips from the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Air North Texas division that help lesson the impact our travels can have on air quality:
- Consider Eco-Friendly Vehicles for daily or vacation use. In addition to having your own eco-friendly car for daily use, consider an electric or hybrid vehicle instead of a conventional gasoline car if you need to rent a car while on vacation.
- Pre-Trip Vehicle Maintenance—doing things such as inspecting the tires, oil and air filter helps improve a vehicle’s performance, engine, and fuel efficiency, and reduces emissions.
- Plan Your Route Strategically as well as avoid traveling during peak hours, in order to reduce travel time, idling and emissions.
- Pack Smartly. Travel as light as possible—with extra weight, your car’s engine works harder and burns more fuel.
- Carpool or Use Trains/Buses When Possible, to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
