Recent weather has shown how quickly storms can form. Receiving weather alerts can help you take cover and stay safe—before it’s too late.

The Richardson Office of Emergency Management recommends the following tools to stay informed:

  • Richardson Emergency Alerts
Sign up to receive calls, texts and e-mails about emergencies affecting the Richardson area—including optional alerts for severe weather watches and warnings. Visit www.cor.net/alerts to register.
  • NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio
Get real-time alerts from the National Weather Service for hazardous weather. Some models include strobes, sound alarms or bed shakers to wake you during overnight storms—giving you precious minutes to reach safety (like a bathroom, closet, or basement). Available at local camping, electronics or online retailers.
  • Weather and Alert Apps
Download weather, lightning or local news apps from your app store (iOS or Android). Many offer real-time alerts and live radar maps. Be sure to enable GPS/location services for the most accurate updates.
  • Outdoor Warning Sirens
A reminder: sirens are not designed to be heard indoors. They are intended to alert people outside to go indoors and seek additional information.
