If you’ve felt like every corner of the city is under construction, you’re not the only one. At this week’s City Council meeting, staff gave an overview of the ongoing Capital Improvements Plan (CIP), including updates related to the 2021 Bond program and news on other notable projects. In his introduction, City Manager Don Magner noted that never before in the City’s history has the City had more capital projects underway at one time.
Highlights:
- 110 capital projects are currently part of the CIP, with City staff managing 328 contracts and $483M in funding
- From the 2021 Bond program, 38 percent of Streets and Alleys projects are complete with 49 percent under construction; nine Parks and Playground projects have been completed with two currently under construction
- All four public buildings slated for renovations or reconstruction under the 2021 and 2023 Bond programs are currently under construction, with the Animal Shelter and Fire Station 5 scheduled for completion in late summer/early fall of this year, the Library set to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, and New City Hall set for opening in early 2027.
Updates and timelines were also given for 2021 Bond-funded traffic signal, drainage/erosion and sidewalk projects; street projects funded in part by DART; Sherrill Park improvements; and the 825 Pressure Zone Improvements project.
