City staff provided the City Council with an update Monday on current and future Transportation and Mobility projects planned to improve safety and overall traffic flow throughout Richardson. Funding sources include the 2021 Bond Program and various local, state and federal grants/programs.
Projects in which construction and/or implementation is expected to begin this year include:
- Traffic signal installation/replacement at five intersections
- Replacement of aging traffic signal infrastructure at eight intersections
- Signal progression improvement at nine locations, part of a partnership with UT Dallas that utilizes AI-based software
- Autonomous vehicle ride service along certain routes
- Bike/pedestrian safety improvements near the Arapaho Center DART Station and between US 75 and Greenville Avenue
- Signal timing improvements
- Vehicle detection upgrades
- Installation of traffic monitoring cameras
