The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) Water Treatment Plant in Wylie was the scene of a drill earlier this week involving the Richardson, Lucas and Wylie Fire Departments, NTMWD personnel and Wylie Police. The drill brought together the Richardson, NTMWD and Wylie hazmat crews to practice responding to chlorine emergencies, simulating a leaking chlorine rail car and line-of-sight rescue of initial responders.
The Lucas Fire Department Rehab Team and the Richardson Fire-1 Rehab Unit were present to ensure drill participants stayed hydrated and cooled during the event, providing tents, fans and other supplies.
These types of drills are performed annually and sometimes more frequently based upon perceived need, to keep hazmat crew skills up to date.
