An increase in overnight stays for area hotels/motels allowed for an increase in funding this year for area arts groups. In September, the City Council approved $305,000 in grants for almost two dozen area cultural and arts-related organizations using funds provided by the hotel/motel tax fund. The amount represents an increase of 39 percent from last year.

Grant recipients are vetted by the City’s Cultural Arts Commission, which acts as an advisory board and recommends funds to support and promote cultural/arts organizations. The Commission reviews grant applications each year and makes decisions in alignment with the City’s Cultural Arts Master Plan. The grants are used to assist organizations with operating expenses and regular programming.
