RICHARDSON – Every summer the demand for water increases across the region with more people spending time outdoors maintaining their lawns and vegetable gardens, but recent drought-like conditions have caused homeowners and businesses to rethink their water conservation efforts.

To do this, the City joins other communities in recommending reduced landscape watering by two minutes per zone.

“Water is one of our most precious resources and we have a need to conserve that precious resource throughout the year, but we want to make sure we always have enough water for basic needs such as public safety and public health and their lies the need to conserve water throughout the year but particular over summer,” said Wayne Larson, Director of Communications for the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD).

There are several ways to conserve water at home from taking shorter showers to turning off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving. People can also check the toilet or pipes for leaks. In Richardson, there’s a water conservation plan that goes into effect every April through November. People with an even number at the end of their address are allowed water on Tuesdays and Saturdays. While the odd numbers water on Wednesdays and Sundays.
