RICHARDSON – When it comes to lending a hand, groups throughout Richardson are putting in the work and helping people get things done around the house as part of the Volunteer Assistance Program (VAP).
“You should not in anyway be ashamed to ask for help. That’s why we are here and why we have this resource. Whether it’s a big project like painting or something small like trimming vegetation, people shouldn’t hesitate to let us know,” said Lindsay Turman, Community Services Administrator.
The program was launched in 2000 and connects companies and nonprofit organizations with people in the community who need the help.
On VAP website, people looking to help homeowners can find photos of various projects, from fence maintenance and vegetation trimming to painting. The listings include the street and neighborhood for each project.
On average, the city receives anywhere between 60 to 100 requests for assistance every year.
