Unidos is a community program run by the Police Department that provides assistance to Spanish speaking residents in Richardson.

One of its biggest events of the  year was recently held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and attracted nearly 500 residents and their children, who were treated to music, face painting, a movie and book bags filled with new school supplies.

Unidos, which is Spanish for United, was designed to help officers better connect with parts of the community that may have come from other areas where trust in public safety personnel is harder to come by. “I feel like once they get to know us they can be a little bit more confident and they can trust us to call us when they need us,” said Officer Carlos Lozada.

Crime prevention officers worked with several businesses to organize this back to school festival. Unidos hosts quarterly meetings in the community.
