RICHARDSON – During the coronavirus pandemic when many people in North Texas are quarantined at home, volunteers at the Network of Community Ministries are still hard at work providing essential services such as food, clothing and financial assistance to families in need.

Since COVID-19 requests for help has grown.  Families are not only asking for assistance in paying utility bills, they are also requesting a hand in paying the rent. Normally, the agency gets about 10 calls a month from people requesting rental assistance.  This week that number jumped to 100.

“It’s caused a lot of stress for families and a lot more calls than we normally serve. So, not only is the need staying consistent, it’s growing exponentially,” said Rachel McNully who works at the Network.

Right now, the Network needs several things from financial contributions, food and clothing to volunteers to help around the office, distribute food and stuff emergency boxes with the essentials.

“We’re in this together and we are taking care of each other,” said Cindy Shafer, CEO, Network of Community Ministries.
