Thanksgiving Day sees more than three times the national daily average of home fires involving cooking equipment. Fire officials urge the importance of kitchen safety and preparedness this holiday season.

Key Safety Points: 

  • Continuously monitor food on stovetop 
  • Turkeys should be monitored frequently  
  • Never leave home while cooking  
  • Check all smoke alarms by pressing the “test” button.  
  • Never use water on grease fires, instead use a tight-fitting lid or fire extinguisher
