RICHARDSON – The Texas Winds Musical Outreach is a nonprofit organization helping many people around the Richardson community get through the COVID-19 pandemic through its mini-outdoor concerts.

“It’s almost like ministering, being able to share our talents with others who can’t get out at all is very uplifting,” said musician, Vurl Bland.

Musicians have gathered outside nursing homes and other facilities to perform. Those in the audience practice social distancing and everyone is wearing a mask.

The Texas Winds Musical Outreach work with about 70 area musicians who play everything from Mozart to Jazz. There are even opportunities for fans to sing along to their favorite tunes.

“They enjoy it so much and it’s a time of fellowship for them to be out of their rooms, to be around one another and visit,” said Catherine Carr, Interim Executive Director of the Texas Winds Musical Outreach.

Since the pandemic, the group has recorded several virtual concerts on social media and are available for people to enjoy.

The Texas Winds Musical Outreach is one of many organizations funded in part by the City through the Cultural Arts Commission.  Visit www.texaswinds.org for more information.
