Shawn Poe has been appointed by Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson to serve as Director of Engineering. Poe succeeds Steve Spanos who is retiring after 38 years of service with the City of Richardson. When he assumes his role in Richardson Nov. 15, Poe will oversee the Capital Projects Department, which is responsible for street, drainage and bond program projects. The Department is currently in the process of implementing the $115-million voter-approved 2015 Bond Program as well as the 2018-19 Municipal Budget, which includes significant increases for arterial streets, collector streets and neighborhood zones, an alley repair program and a preventative maintenance program.
“We feel fortunate to have found a candidate with exceptional experience to fill this vital role,” Johnson said. “Engineering services are the backbone of all infrastructure in our community and it is important to have people like Poe serving in our leadership roles to ensure quality service in the projects we provide.”
Poe has worked in the municipal engineering field for more than 24 years and currently serves as the Director of Public Works for the City of Rowlett. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and Master of Engineering in Engineering Management from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
“The Richardson team has an incredible reputation for excellence in infrastructure programs,” Poe said. “I’m excited to make this transition and to be a part of that team and the work being done in Richardson to enhance maintenance and improve service in the community.”
