The Richardson Fire Department, Police Department and Office of Emergency Management hosted a “Scouting Public Safety Day” merit badge event last Saturday at the City’s Fire Training Center, providing Scouts with hands-on learning opportunities related to public safety.

A total of 60 Scouts participated in the event, with the opportunity to earn seven different merit badges, including Crime Prevention, Search and Rescue and Fire Safety. In all, approximately 100 merit badges were awarded during the daylong program. Additionally, 18 Scouts completed certification in the Stop the Bleed program, which teaches life-saving techniques for controlling severe bleeding during emergencies.

The event was supported by 22 volunteer instructors from the three City departments, along with partners from Texas Search and Rescue (TXSAR) and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, who helped lead training sessions and demonstrations.
