RICHARDSON – Richardson’s Parks and Recreation staff and volunteers are putting the finishing touches on this year’s Santa’s Village, which is set to open Saturday, Dec. 4 immediately after the Christmas Parade Awards Ceremony, and running through Dec. 19.

When not displayed, the 16 dwellings are kept outdoors in the hot, cold, and sometimes wet conditions before arriving at Richardson City Hall in mid-October. Then, the work begins to turn the area into a winter wonderland.

The dwellings include Santa’s Workshop, Library, Fire Station, and the popular Santa’s House. There are also Frosty’s House, the North Pole Police Station, the Polar Bear Credit Union, Santa’s Beary Good Hospital, the Reindeer Shed, the Pet Shop, Post Office, Symphony Hall, Mrs. Claus’ Bakery, the Ornament Factor, the Castle Cafe, and KELF-TV.

There are more than 50 trees in Santa’s Village, each decorated with about 50 ornaments and plenty of lights to enjoy. The free nightly holiday event will also include music and dances from various groups around the community.

Sant’s Village has free parking and free photos with Santa. The event starts Saturday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony and runs through De. 19th with Hometown Thursdays taking place Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.
