The Richardson Police Department (RPD) announced this week that Richardson has earned first place nationwide in Category 2 (for communities with populations between 100,000 and 300,000) in the National Association of Town Watch’s 2024 National Night Out awards. The recognition highlights the city’s exceptional celebration of National Night Out this year—on October 1, RPD collaborated with local residents and businesses to organize 114 block parties and park celebrations across the city that included a “Turn the Town Blue” campaign. The event saw participation from police officers, firefighters, city and state officials, volunteers and special guests, including Miss Texas.

National Night Out is held annually in October in many southern states (and in August in more summer-temperate climates) and is designed to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to help in crime prevention and enhance quality of life. RPD has won the first-place distinction three times since the City’s population placed Richardson into Award Category 2.
