The City of Richardson offers an Emergency Notification System that delivers alerts via phone calls, text messages and e-mails to keep residents informed of critical situations in a timely manner.

This system provides alerts for emergencies such as:

  • Tornado warnings,
  • Emergency evacuations,
  • Public health concerns, and
  • Crime-related incidents that pose an immediate threat to a specific area.

Because emergencies can occur at any time and may impact communication systems, the Office of Emergency Management recommends using multiple methods to receive alerts. These include weather apps and a NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio, which can provide reliable indoor warnings even when other systems are unavailable.

Richardson also uses outdoor warning sirens designed to alert individuals who are outside. However, these sirens may not be heard indoors. That’s why it’s important to use indoor notification tools, such as weather radios or mobile apps with alert functions, which can override other household sounds and ensure critical messages are received.
