The Richardson Animal Shelter recently got a few new temporary residents this week thanks to the Collin County Animal Shelter. With the McKinney-based shelter at full capacity and Richardson having some empty kennels, six dogs took the trip down US 75 in the next step on their journey to finding a forever home.
“They reached out to us and asked us to help if we could because they were out of space,” said Noura Jammal, Richardson Animal Services Manager.
While this is the first time that Richardson has received dogs from Collin County, Jammal said it is common for shelters to assist each other.
“We have received pets from multiple shelters including Dallas, Irving and Plano,” she said. “Anytime somebody has a need they usually reach out to all the shelter managers, and if we can help we always do what we can. Similarly, other nearby shelters assist us as well when we are near or at capacity.”
Of the six dogs received from Collin County, two were adopted within a day and four remained as of Friday afternoon.
The dogs came to Richardson at the tail end of the month-long Clear the Shelters event. Adoption fees are being waived for all adoptable pets through Sunday, Sept. 19. Richardson has placed 103 animals in new homes since the event kicked off in mid-August.

All adoptable animals are listed at www.cor.net/adoptme and when you make the appointment you should mention any specific animals you would like to see. If you already have dogs at home you are welcome to bring them with them to see how they interact with the Shelter animals.
