An audience of about 1,200 attended the Richardson Reads One Book (RROB) lecture and luncheon this week featuring Shelby Van Pelt, author of the book, “Remarkably Bright Creatures.” It was one of the largest crowds to ever attend the free annual event. This year’s event was held in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Richardson. As part of RROB 2023, Van Pelt also spoke this week to RISD high school students.

RROB began in Richardson in 2004 as part of a national movement to bring together all segments of communities through reading and discussion of a single book. It is funded in part by the Richardson Cultural Arts Commission. Each year’s book, selected based on criteria such as broad appeal, timely subject matter and thought-provoking issues, is announced in April, with activities and discussions held in the months leading up to the author appearance.
