In preparation for the annual National Public Works Week (May 21-27), Richardson Public Services staff gave an overview of the department at Monday’s City Council meeting. Public Services encompasses three major divisions: Utilities (water, wastewater, plant maintenance, SCADA/24-hour response team); Streets (street/alley maintenance, storm drainage, winter weather response); and Solid Waste (residential, commercial, BABIC and recycling).
Highlights of 2021-22 statistics reported include:
- More than 100,000 tons of solid waste was picked up
- More than 11,000 responses to calls were made from the 24-hour response line
- 800 pothole/pavement repairs were completed; 1,500 cubic yards of concrete were poured as well as 1,000 tons of asphalt
Public Services will celebrate Public Works week by honoring its employees with a variety of activities, including a luncheon and the annual “Equipment Road-e-o,” in which heavy equipment operators compete in contests.
