In conjunction with National Police Week, which began May 9, the Richardson Police Department held a memorial service Monday morning at police headquarters honoring peace officers killed in the line of duty in 2020 from across Texas, as well as those lost due to COVID-19. The ceremony included a 21-gun salute and Taps performed by the Richardson Police Honor Guard.
National Police Week was established by Congress in 1962, observed each May during the week that includes May 15, National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
