Richardson Police Chief Jim Spivey has announced his plans to retire May 31 after 26 years of service with the Richardson Police Department. May 2021 coincides with Spivey’s 50th year of policing.

Chief Spivey began at the City of Richardson in 1995 as a captain after serving nearly 25 years with the Dallas Police Department. He was appointed Richardson Chief of Police in August 2009.

Recruitment strategies for naming a successor to the position are underway. City Manager Dan Johnson will establish a replacement selection process in the coming weeks regarding the timely filling of the position.
