The City Council voted to adopt new building and electrical codes at Monday’s City Council meeting after holding a public hearing. The new codes adopted are the 2021 edition of the International Codes (nine codes that pertain to building standards) and the 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code, including regional and local amendments. The City previously operated under the 2018 International Codes and 2017 National Electric Code.

New versions of these codes are released every three years to account for issues that arise between code cycles, new construction methods and to clarify existing regulations.
