Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson has appointed Mark Nelson to serve as director of the City’s newly organized Transportation and Mobility Department. The Department includes the City’s traffic division, which is responsible for a variety of transportation projects and studies.
“Finding the right person to fill this new role was critical as we enhance our traffic management services,” Johnson said. “Mark’s experience with both transportation issues and regional agencies made him an easy choice to fill this position and we are excited about adding his abilities to our management team.”
When he assumes his role in Richardson Nov. 1, 2018, Nelson will be responsible for the creation, oversight and implementation of long- and short-range planning for transportation facilities and programs. Nelson will also be responsible for administering and managing intergovernmental relations on transportation issues and serving as the liaison to related transportation agencies.
“I’m honored to be selected as the Director of Transportation and Mobility for the City of Richardson,” Nelson said. “Richardson is an innovative, forward-thinking leader in providing transportation solutions and enhancing mobility options in the region. I’m eager to begin working with the community and stakeholders as part of the next phase of developing Richardson’s transportation initiatives.”
Nelson previously served as Transportation Director for the City of Denton, where he progressed as a transportation professional over the past 22 years. He has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University and holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Texas.
