A new map is now available on the City’s website at www.cor.net/SevereWeather, providing detailed information on when storm-related debris haulers will be working in specific areas. This map is also being shared on the City’s Richardson Today Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor social media accounts, available to follow at www.cor.net/Social. The map was created to help residents know when to expect service and when to avoid parking in front of homes. The debris hauler determines routes based on its estimates to collect material efficiently and effectively across the city.
Specialized Teams Activated to Collect Storm-Related Vegetative Debris
On June 3, specialized debris hauler CrowderGulf Disaster Recovery & Debris Management began collecting piles of storm-related vegetative debris. Its crews currently consist of six large haulers outfitted with heavy-duty collection equipment able to quickly collect and transport the type and amount of debris created in the storm.
Its crews will complete a minimum of two passes through the community to collect material, which consists of driving every street in the city to pick up piles left in front of homes.
How to Help with the Collection Process
When collection crews are in an area, residents are asked to avoid parking on the street between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to allow easy access for the large debris-hauling trucks that are used to collect material.
For homes located in older neighborhoods where on-street parking is the only option available, residents are asked to park at least 20 feet away from the storm-related debris piles to allow room for trucks to operate. Residents are also asked to be conscious of the space needed for the trucks to get down the street and to park on only one side of the street, if possible.
Duration for Collection Process
Completion of the first-pass of debris collection is estimated to take 4-6 weeks. The second pass through the community will occur immediately following completion of the first round. It is estimated the completion of the second round of collection will be completed in mid-July.
Scheduled BABIC Service Currently Suspended
Collection of regular Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) service is temporarily suspended until progress can be made on the clearing of storm-related vegetative debris in local neighborhoods, parks and along roads. Notifications will be shared on the City’s website (www.cor.net) and on City social media channels when regular service can resume.
Additionally, contractors will not pick up normal household trash or recycling. Residents are also asked NOT to place storm debris in compostable paper bags due to the mulching process of storm-related debris material.
Request for Patience in Collection Process
Contractors are working to remove storm-related debris in Richardson and have collected more than 53,383 tons of debris since June 3. It is estimated that about 150,000 tons of debris was created by the May 28 storm. Everyone is asked to please be patient with the cleanup process and to know response and recovery crews are working to restore the community to its pre-storm state as quickly as possible.
Residents asked to:
- PLEASE DO, place storm-related vegetative debris on the street Right-Of-Way (ROW), not by the alley (see graphic).
- PLEASE DO, keep all vehicles at least 20 feet away from storm-related vegetative debris piles between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to allow for passage of oversized trailers to remove material.
