The League of American Bicyclists has released its annual Bicycle Friendly Community Public Survey, which includes Richardson. The survey aims to gauge a national census of Americans’ experiences and perceptions of riding a bike in different communities across the U.S. Results from the survey will help the League as it determines a future ranking for Richardson’s “bike-friendly” status.

About the Survey

This year, nearly 100 communities submitted applications to the League’s Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) program. Input from Richardson residents will help the League better understand current bicycling conditions and identify potential areas for improvement in the community. The League values feedback from people who are familiar with biking, or interested in biking, in communities undergoing the certification or recertification process.

The survey should take about 3-5 minutes to complete, and most questions are optional. The survey will be open until Oct. 15.

Richardson’s Current Bike-Friendly Status

In 2015, Richardson was rated as a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists and has retained that rating since. The City is currently in the process of submitting an application for re-certification, with the goal of advancing to a Silver-level designation.

Richardson’s Bike-Friendly History

When Richardson received the Bronze rating in 2015, it was one of only five cities in Texas, and the only one in North Texas, to achieve this status. If successful, Richardson would be the first city in North Texas to receive a Silver rating.
