Eighteen employees from Public Services gathered at Huffhines Park this week to compete in the City’s Heavy Equipment Rodeo as part of National Public Works Week, May 21-27. The rodeo involved two events where contestants had to use a backhoe loader to see how fast they could perform certain “tricks” such as dropping a pin into a traffic cone and picking up golf balls with a spoon taped to a backhoe’s bucket. The winners were Streets Crew Leader Bill Semon (pin drop) and Water Operations Field Service Supervisor Justin Vickers (golf ball drop).

The American Public Works Association has been sponsoring National Public Works Week since 1960 to educate the public on the importance of public works in improving everyday quality of life.
