City staff updated the City Council Monday about improvements regarding the process of filling positions for City boards and commissions, including a new recruitment campaign and adjustments to the timing of applications and appointments. The City oversees 10 boards and commissions comprised of concerned citizens who volunteer their time, knowledge, and expertise to make a difference in the community, in particular areas of interest such as animal services, cultural arts, zoning and parks.
Previously, members were appointed by the City Council throughout each year, depending on when members’ terms ended as well as the timing of Council meetings. With the new process, members will be appointed each November, and terms will be staggered by odd-even years.
The refined process and timing allows for a focused application period each fall. Recruitment activities are already underway, with a new “Get On Board” application campaign that includes a reception and information session Sept. 20 (see below in Events for details).
