This week Richardson has been celebrating Fix a Leak Week, an annual EPA WaterSense event, by distributing free toilet leak detection tablet packs at several City facilities. A toilet leak can waste more than 200 gallons of water a day and is one of the largest water wasters in a home, so Fix a Leak Week is a great time for residents to check for water leaks and drips. Although you can usually hear a running toilet, some toilet leaks are silent, and that’s why the colored tablets in the leak detection packs help—placed in a toilet tank, leaks are indicated if colored water seeps into the toilet bowl between flushes.

Through Sunday, March 26, pick up leak detection packs at the following facilities during normal business hours:

  • Heights Recreation Center, 711 W. Arapaho Rd.
  • Huffhines Recreation Center, 200 N. Plano Rd.
  • Senior Center, 820 W. Arapaho Rd.
