The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) extended the deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) (for homeowners and renters affected by the April and May storms who reside in Dallas County and Collin County) to Aug. 15. The previous deadline was July 16.
Who Should Apply?
Anyone impacted by the severe storm on May 28, whether they have insurance, should apply.
What Kind of Assistance is Available?
FEMA can help repair uninsured and underinsured damage to your primary residence. Reimbursement is also available for a variety of essential items including food, water, diapers, prescriptions, baby formula, chainsaws for clearing debris, childcare, dental and medical care, generators for powering medical equipment and more. FEMA can also provide funding for hotel stays or rental assistance if the home is uninhabitable.
What if the Claim is Denied?
If your claim is denied or you disagree with a FEMA decision, you can appeal. You must appeal within 60 days of the date on the decision letter. This can be done via the following methods:
- Online – The appeal can be managed through an account at www.disasterassistance.gov
- In Person – You can take your appeal documentation to a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center
- By Mail – Mail your appeal documents to: FEMA – Individuals & Households Program National Processing Service Center, P.O. Box 10055, Hyattsville, MD 20782
- By Fax – Fax appeal documents to: 800-827-8112, Attention: FEMA – Individuals & Households Program
