The grass is greener these days at Bush Central Barkway following a refresh to the grounds earlier this summer. The six-acre dog park, located at the corner of the President George Bush Turnpike and U.S. Hwy. 75, has served the four-legged friends of area residents since 2015. Visitors utilize five separate paddocks including two large-dog areas that are alternated each week to allow for ground recovery, one for small dogs, one for older, sedentary or convalescing dogs, and one that is available for rental.

City Parks and Recreation crews renewed each worn-down dog park section by aerifying the soil, fertilizing it, and hydroseeding. The new grass welcomed the paws of returning and new canine visitors in July.

The Barkway allows owners to give their dogs exercise and socialization. It includes a central plaza with restrooms and shade structures.

Shohn Rodgers, Superintendent of Parks, said, “We’re in a unique position that a lot of cities aren’t to have a dog park like this that is so loved by our community.”
