With major construction and temporary down-sizing underway, the Richardson Animal Shelter is waiving dog adoption fees from June 5th-11th in hopes of finding as many forever homes as possible before kennel renovations begin on the 13th. If you are unable to adopt, the shelter could use your help in many other ways – primarily, fostering. Fostering is free, flexible, and endlessly rewarding.
Kennel space will be greatly limited during the months of renovations – going from 44 useable kennels to 19. The shelter’s kennels are being transformed from a dated and worn chain-link style to colorful, solid panel walls with clear acrylic doors, to improve safety, security, disease control, and kennel stress. In addition, there will be improved insulation, to help with Texas’ weather extremes; mounted water bowls, to fix the spilling issue that occurred with the previous buckets; and an improved drainage system.
The shelter renovation project is funded in part by the 2015 Bond Program. Construction is expected to begin mid-June and be completed this fall. The space for the cats at the shelter will not be affected by the renovations. Until further notice, the shelter is not accepting any dog owner surrenders.
