City Transportation and Mobility staff gave an update to the City Council Monday on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus network redesign and the Silver Line project.
Highlights included:
- The budget-neutral draft plan for the bus network redesign (a.k.a. DARTzoom) was completed this spring and allocates a greater percentage of resources toward improving frequency of bus routes that have high ridership. Targeted start date for DARTzoom is January 2022.
- Cost of the Silver Line project has increased from about $1.3 billion to about $1.9 billion, and the start date for service has been moved to the fourth quarter of 2024.
- DART will also be adding and expanding GoLink zones which offers on-demand service weekdays for riders who have been impacted by bus route changes.
At the meeting, DART also presented artist renderings of the planned UT Dallas Silver Line station as well as the new Silver Line station to be constructed near the existing CityLine/Bush station. Plans are for a cohesive design that uses lighted arches to “stitch” the two CityLine stations together.
DART will continue to receive public comments regarding DARTzoom through June 22. Community meetings about the Silver Line project are held quarterly (the next is planned for July 27).
