City staff updated the City Council Monday on plans for the McKinney Street Reconstruction Project. Upgrades for the street (just north and south of Main Street) were originally planned to be part of the 2015 Bond-funded Main Street Project, but were removed due to budget constraints and instead included in the 2021 Bond Program. The renovations, now scheduled to get started in June, include utility and paving improvements (to match the aesthetics of the Main Street improvements) as well as new landscaping, making McKinney Street a more pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare.

Thanks to pedestrian improvement funding from Dallas County as well as leftover savings from the Main Street Project, the McKinney Street project is expected to only need $300,000 of the $1.8M allocated for it in the 2021 Bond. The resulting $1.5M in savings is tentatively targeted for the Glenville Road Project.

Planned completion date for the McKinney Street Reconstruction Project is winter 2023.
